Today’s Matchup

The Battle Court Briefing is your edge on World Jai Alai League matchups, featuring match previews, recaps, and data-driven insights powered by Rebote Analytics.

Friday night 12/12 at 7pm ET, the Cyclones and Devils will meet in what is one of the more intriguing Championship matchups we’ve seen in 8 seasons of Battle Court.

The Cyclones have been atop the standings for most of the year, led by a top 3 of Manu, Inaki, and Jairo. With Unda becoming more comfortable in the backcourt as the season has progressed, Bueno returning to pre-injury form in the Semifinals, and Stan continuing to be one of the most improved performers in the league, the Cyclones will look to cap off a dominant season with their 2nd title, and first since the maiden Battle Court Season in Spring 2022.

The Devils make their first ever championship appearance after surging up the standings in the 2nd half of the season. Etcheberry has become one of the most improved players the last 2 months of the season, and has provided a nice spark in the top 2 divisions alongside Nicolas and Benny, 2 of the most consistent backcourters in the league. Benetrix has continued to be a revelation in his first season of Battle Court, and if Kubala and Roque can find some consistent play, the Devils will be a dangerous “underdog” to bring home their first Battle Court title.

Match 1 - Etcheberry/Benny vs. Jairo/Manu

The championship gameday starts off with a scorcher between 2 of the hottest teams in Battle Court. Jairo/Manu come in having won 8 of their last 9 matches and Etcheberry/Benny have now won 4 of their last 5 after starting off the season 1-5.

These teams split the season head to head, with the Cyclones winning in straight sets on 10/15 and the Devils returning the favor with a straight set victory on 11/11.

With both teams having backcourters taking > 60% of throws, expect a slow-paced slugfest type of match to open the gameday. A couple untimely drops, aces, or kill shots will make the difference in this one in a key swing match to determine the champions of the Fall 2025 Battle Court season.

Match 2 - Benetrix/Benny vs. Inaki/Unda

A crucial matchup early in the day with a swing match that could end up deciding the championship. The Devils and Cyclones have split the Division 4 matchups this season, with the Devils winning in 3 sets on 9/23 and the Cyclones winning in 3 sets on 11/11, in a match that came down to match point.

Benetrix/Benny enter with one of the best records in all of Battle Court at 9-2 and two of the best 6 catch rates in the league, with Benetrix ranked 6th and Benny ranked 4th. Benetrix has been insanely impressive in his first season of Battle Court, ranking 1st in Total Kills and 7th in Total Kill Rate.

Inaki/Unda have struggled throughout the season with a 4-7 record and never recording 2 wins in a row. Inaki has been more aggressive in this division, taking 43.5% of throws with Unda, compared to just 37.8% of throws in Division 1 with Manu as his partner. Inaki will have to utilize his shot making ability in order for the Cyclones to win this one. In the Fall 2025 season, Inaki ranks 5th in Total Kills and has done it in a variety of ways, ranking top 10 in Two Wall Kills, Splitter Kills, Filo Kills, Dejada Kills, and Three Wall Kills.

Match 3 - Nicolas/Kubala vs. Bueno/Unda

Nicolas/Kubala enter this match as one of the most dominant teams in all of Battle Court at 8-1. However, that one loss did come against Unda back on 10/15 with Robin as his frontcourter. In that 10/15 match, Nicolas dropped 5 balls, his 2nd worst mark of the season, as he adjusted to Unda’s unique power. They rebounded with a dominant straight set victory over Robin/Unda on 11/11.

Nicolas and Kubala boast far superior catch rates at 97.2% and 96.0% respectively. Marks that far exceed Bueno or Unda’s Total Catch Rates this season. Advantage Devils from that perspective.

Bueno will need to continue to utilize the Costado against Nicolas/Kubala. In his two matches so far this season, he has a Costado Rate of 19.4%, 6th highest in Battle Court. This is compared to Robin at just 9.82% (15th). This is a sustainable mark for Bueno, who finished the Winter 2025 season with a 21.7% Costado Rate. He will need to be a markedly more aggressive shot maker with those costados. Bueno is at just a 28.6% Costado Shot Rate in his 2 matches, down significantly from his Winter 2025 rate of 56.4% and Robin’s Fall 2025 rate of 64.1%.

Match 4 - Benetrix/Roque vs. Jairo/Stan

One of the most intriguing matchups in all of Battle Court. These teams split the head to head this season, with the Devils losing in 3 sets on 9/23 and coming back with a 3 set victory in the rematch on 11/11.

These have been 2 of the best teams in Battle Court this season, with records of 8-1 for Jairo/Stan and 10-2 for Benetrix/Roque, including an active 9-match win streak.

This match also features 2 of the most aggressive frontcourters in all of Battle Court this season, with Benetrix/Roque ranking 1st in percent of throws by the frontcourter (66.9%) and Jairo/Stan ranking 7th (57.4%).

Match 5 - Etcheberry/Nicolas vs. Inaki/Manu

The Cyclones won both Division 1 doubles matchups against the Devils this season, however, the Devils did find some in-roads in their most recent matchup on 11/11, as Etcheberry/Nicolas became just the 3rd team of the season to that point to push Inaki/Manu to a 3rd set.

Over the last month of the season, Etcheberry has found a lot more comfort in his first season at Magic City. Since October 28th, he ranks 1st in Total Kill Rate and T-2 in Two Wall Kills.

One thing to watch for in this one is that Etcheberry has still shown inconsistencies with catching. In that same time period, he ranks just 24th in Total Catch Rate and 32nd in Forehand Catch Rate. Not a great recipe against an Inaki and Manu team who rank 5th and 2nd, respectively, in Total Catch Rate.

Match 6 - Kubala/Roque vs. Bueno/Stan

The Cyclones won both previous Division 6 matchups vs. the Devils, however, both matches featured Stan in the frontcourt paired with Robin in the backcourt. This matchup will be significantly different, with Bueno returning for the Cyclones and Stan returning to his natural backcourt position.

Kubala and Roque have been extremely underwhelming this season, posting a 3-8 record through the Semifinals. While Kubala boasts the highest catch rate of these 4 players, he is still only taking 48.5% of throws for this Devils team, and Roque has continued to struggle with consistency, ranking 33rd in Total Catch Rate and 34th in Forehand Catch Rate.

The Cyclones will need Bueno to continue his return to his pre-injury form, as his aggressiveness in the frountcourt will be necessary for the Cyclones to control this match and secure what will surely be a key win for the Cyclones.
