Match 1 - Etcheberry/Benny vs. Jairo/Manu

Result: Jairo/Manu win 6-1, 6-5

The opening match of the championship showcased long, grinding, backcourt-heavy rallies. Many early points hinged on his rebote decisions, including several miscues, over-runs, and hesitant reads allowing the Cyclones to repeatedly apply pressure. Jairo’s pace from the back dictated much of Set 1, forcing errors on both Etcheberry and Benny, while Manu remained steady. The Cyclones appeared comfortable extending rallies and relying on their catch-rate edge, especially exploiting Etcheberry’s inconsistency off the back wall.

Set 2 shifted dramatically as both teams exchanged aces at an unusually high clip. Etcheberry opened with a strong serve, but Jairo answered with a couple aces of his own off hard, cortada serves. The set became defined by serve-and-error sequences rather than extended rallies. Although Etcheberry found a few clean offensive moments, including kills from a splitter and a cortada, the volume of rebote errors, missed scoops, and miscommunication moments tilted momentum decisively toward the Cyclones. By the end of the set, Jairo’s serve pressure and Etcheberry’s rebote volatility were the defining factors.

The Cyclones stayed true to their defensive nature, out-catching the Devils in both the frontcourt and backcourt. Jairo only threw 2 kill shots, and the Cyclones held Etcheberry to just a 33.3% kill rate on his 9 kill shot attempts. Etcheberry ended the match with a 9.09% out of play rate, and the Cyclones rolled to a straight set victory.

Match 2 - Benetrix/Benny vs. Inaki/Unda

Result: Inaki/Unda win 6-4, 4-6, 6-3

This match delivered some of the most technical jai alai of the night, with momentum swinging through shot-selection battles. In Set 1, Benetrix leaned heavily into aggressive pace, while Inaki oscillated between opportunistic counterattacks and moments of passivity. Unda contributed kill shots for the Cyclones as well, including a backhand two-wall winner. The exciting set was defined by kill shots, with 7 of 10 points being decided by a kill shot attempt (successful or not).

A few untimely drops by Unda led to the Devils getting a 2nd set win to send this match into a 3rd set. A common theme for Benetrix and Benny, who finished the Fall 2025 season with 10 of their 12 matches reaching a 3rd set.

In Set 3, Unda’s increasing power gave Benny trouble trying to defend his backhand along the wall. The match ultimately turned on defensive composure. Just one point in the third set was won via kill shot. The Devils misread several balls off the back wall, and Unda’s sustained power forced a series of tips from Benny. Though the Devils displayed high-level stretches, Cyclones capitalized late as fatigue-driven errors and missed rebotes accumulated. The match narrative ends with a clear note: Benny left frustrated after an 0–2 night, pressured heavily by Unda’s pace.

Match 3 - Nicolas/Kubala vs. Bueno/Unda

Result: Nicolas/Kubala win 6-5, 6-3

Match 3 opened with Unda clearly fatigued, forcing him into early errors. Nicolas and Kubala pushed the pace intentionally, keeping balls tight on the wall and making Unda work from awkward positions. Unda worked to speed up the pace of points and delivered 3 straight kills, including two backhand two-wall winners and a costado two-wall winner. The Cyclones struggled to maintain consistency as the set unfolded, and 2 missed rebotes allowed the Devils a window after being down 5-2. A couple drops later, and the Devils had stolen a 6-5 first set and all of the momentum in this match.

Set 2 saw the Devils jump out to a 4-0 lead behind a couple missed rebotes and an ace from Nicolas. Kubala’s only 2 drops of the match and a missed Nicolas rebote shrank the Devils lead to 4-3, but it was too little too late, as Nicolas took over late to give the Devils their only win of the Championship gameday.

Unda saw the Cyclones disadvantage early and tried to compensate by throwing 10 kill shots in this match, but the defense of the Devils was too much, holding Unda to just a 30% total kill rate. In a defensive battle, the Devils prevailed with a perfect catch rate from Nicolas and dominant performance by Kubala in the backcourt, finishing with a higher catch rate than Unda in this match. The Cyclones finished with a higher out of play rate in both the frontcourt and backcourt, all culminating in a Devils win.

Match 4 - Benetrix/Roque vs. Jairo/Stan

Result: Jairo/Stan win 6-4, 2-6, 6-2

Set 1 began with Benetrix attempting to control tempo by directing traffic away from Jairo. Early success came from aggressive pace, but Jairo adjusted quickly as Stan settled in nicely, leading to a Cyclones first set victory after Benetrix failed to stop a Stan caram with the score at 4-3.

Benetrix found his rhythm in Set 2, controlling the pace of the entire set and mixing in a filo winner and an ace. Stan’s only shaky set led to the Devils evening up the match without having to deal with much pressure. These two teams finished the Fall 2025 season with all 3 of their matches needing a 3rd set to decide the winner.

Behind one of the more aggressive Jairo performances (8 kill shot attempts) and Stan out-catching Roque in the backcourt, the Cyclones secured their 3rd of 4 necessary matches to take home the Fall 2025 Championship. The Cyclones defense stifled Benetrix, holding him to just an 11.1% total kill rate in this match, which ended up being the difference.

Match 5 - Etcheberry/Nicolas vs. Inaki/Manu

Result: Inaki/Manu win 3-6, 6-1, 6-1

The championship’s finale delivered the wildest momentum swings of the night. Set 1 opened with Etcheberry firing two straight aces, and Manu shockingly dropping multiple routine backhand catches. Nicolas played with elite precision to start, hugging the wall and controlling pace while the Cyclones struggled to settle in. It is not often that a backcourter will completely outclass Manu, but Nicolas managed to do it in this opening set.

The Cyclones clearly targeted Etcheberry’s rebote, forcing him to take 32 rebotes, his 3rd highest total of the season. The Cyclones suffocated the Devils in the final two sets of this Championship-clinching match, led by Inaki’s efficiency (55.6% total kill rate) and elite defense, holding Etcheberry to just a 18.2% total kill rate and Manu not dropping another ball after the first set. Inaki and Manu capped off an incredible season with 2 incredible 6-1 sets, finishing off a 10-1 season in Division 1 doubles with a Championship trophy.

Rebote Analytics Finals MVP - Jairo

Jairo went 2-0 in his Championship matches, showing off his elite defense by leading all 4 players in total catch rate during both of his matches. This included wins over two of the Devils hottest teams, with Etcheberry and Benny entering having won 5 of their previous 7 and Benetrix and Roque having won 8 straight matches prior to the Championship.

He also showed that he can win in a multitude of ways, throwing just 2 kill shots in the Division 2 match, and throwing 8 kill shots in the Division 5 match. In the Division 5 match, Jairo’s 8 kill shot attempts was tied for his 3rd most during the Fall 2025 season, and he did it while holding Benetrix to just 1 kill shot and a 11.1% total kill rate, his 2nd lowest in both of those categories for the Fall 2025 season.

Kudos to Jairo on an amazing performance, and being named Rebote Analytics’ Finals MVP for the Fall 2025 Battle Court Championship.
