Stat Breakdown

Winter 2025 was a promising but underwhelming debut season for Urrutia in Battle Court. The Fireballs retaining him as their 2nd ranked player entering the Fall 2025 season was a bet on elevation. The tools are there, but the results still haven’t followed.

The Good

The progress was clear. From Winter 2025 to Fall 2025, his Total Win Rate in doubles jumped from 35% to 45%, and his Total Catch Rate climbed by 1.4%, driven by better catch rates on both the forehand and backhand.

And the shot-making is not the debate. When he gets his looks, he can end points. He finished in the 80th percentile of the roster or better in Kills from the Two Wall, Splitter, Filo, Dejada, and Three Wall.

Urrutia was a key part of a very competitive D1 team for the Fireballs. While their record of 5-4 may seem modest, they were one of just 3 teams with a winning record in the top division of doubles, alongside two of the most dominant teams in Battle Court: Inaki/Manu (10-1) and Goixerri/Amigorena (7-2). Against those top two teams, Urrutia/Aratz went 1-3, but with an overall point differential of just -3. That is competitive, even in losses.

Not All Roses

The foundation looked stronger, but Fall 2025 still fell short of a true breakout.

Urrutia saw a 0.6% decrease in Total Kill Rate, falling from 16th to 22nd on the roster. He also fell from 4th to 7th in Total Kills. While he rose from 6th to 3rd in Costado Rate, that number was still 1.7% lower than his Winter 2025 mark.

The sharpest red flag showed up when he had to drive. In Division 1 with Aratz, Urrutia never took more than 48% of throws in a match. They finished 5-4.

In Division 3 with Cabrera, it was a different story. In their 11 matches, Urrutia took more than 50% of the throws 6 times. They went just 1-5 in those 6 matches. Urrutia/Cabrera went 3-2 across the other 5 matches where Urrutia took fewer than 50% of the throws.

That contrast jumps off the page. When more of the match runs through him, the room for mistakes disappears.

What Needs To Change

Urrutia plays an aggressive, shot-forward style. In a season where costado rates and shot attempts were lower across the league, it was a clear opportunity for that style to separate.

Instead, his aggression often lacked timing. While he was 3rd in Total Costado Rate, he finished just 12th in Costado Shot Rate among players with 40 or more costados on the season. The opportunities were there. The conversion was not.

The same theme shows up in the forehand. His Forehand Rate increased by an astounding 6.12%, yet he still finished just T-16th in Cortada Kills and Cortada Shot Attempts. More volume did not turn into more damage.

The next step is not playing less aggressively. It is playing aggressively with purpose. Urrutia will need to turn that frenetic energy into cleaner point-winning sequences.

Spring 2026 Outlook

Urrutia will return as the Fireballs 2nd ranked player for the Spring 2026 season and will be featured, once again, in 1st and 3rd ranked doubles divisions. The Spring 2026 season will be a pivotal one for Urrutia.

In Division 1, his new backcourt partner Nicolas has a slightly different play style than Aratz, and has proven able to dictate the pace of points in a more direct manner. In Division 4, his backcourt partner Ikeda plays a very different style. Ikeda takes 53% of his throws from the forehand, significantly higher than both Aratz (10%) and Cabrera (9%).

That contrast is the opportunity. If Urrutia can deploy his aggressive game in the right spots, with backcourters who control points in very different ways, he has a path to reaching his ceiling as one of the elite frontcourters in Battle Court.

The Fireballs will look to build off of 3 straight playoff appearances, including one trip to the finals, and claim their first Battle Court Championship. And Urrutia is no doubt a key piece in this Championship quest.
